Joseph H. L. Perez-Montes

Joseph H.L. Perez-Montes (“Joe”) joined Gold Weems in 2010 and is an associate of the firm.


Joe received his B.A. in History, summa cum laude, in 2004 from Louisiana College and his J.D., summa cum laude, in 2009 from Tulane University Law School, where he graduated Order of the Coif.

During law school, Joe received CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for receiving the highest grades in Torts, Civil Law Property II, Administrative Law, Family Law, and Constitutional Law: First Amendment. In his second year of law school, Joe authored a comment titled “Justiciability in Modern War Zones: Is the Political Question Doctrine a Viable Bar to Tort Claims Against Private Military Contractors?,” 83 Tul. L. Rev. 219 (2008). He also served as a Managing Editor of the Tulane Law Review, a Senior Legal Research and Writing Fellow, and a research assistant to Professor A.N. Yiannopoulos.

After graduating from law school, Joe worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Dee D. Drell, Judge for the United States District Court, Western District of Louisiana (2009 - 2010).

  • Successfully represented public and private employers against discrimination, retaliation, and civil rights claims at both administrative and judicial levels.
  • Represented public and private employers in various compliance issues, including drafting and implementing employment agreements and personnel policies.
  • Successfully represented public employers in civil service appeals before municipal, police and fire, and state civil service boards.
  • Successfully represented public and private employers in unemployment insurance and similar appeals at both administrative and judicial levels.
  • Successfully defended a local public retirement system before a state appellate court in a case involving important questions of statutory interpretation and public policy.
