Summer Associate Program

Our Summer Associate Program for first and second year law students is our primary tool for recruiting and evaluating new attorneys.

Students may split their summer clerkships between firms, but Gold Weems prefers at least five to six weeks in the summer to allow both the firm and the clerks sufficient time to truly get to know one another. Many of the firm’s shareholders were introduced to Gold Weems through this program.

Summer Associates considering central Louisiana as a potential home are introduced to the firm and its practice. Clerks receive assignments with rotations emphasizing the various practice areas in the firm, working with different lawyers. When possible, we try to expose our Summer Associates to the "outside" practice – depositions, hearings, trials – so that law students receive a well-developed "snapshot" of what it means to practice law at Gold Weems. Compensation is comparable to that offered for similar clerkships by other major Louisiana firms.

Because Gold Weems is a family, an important aspect of the Summer Associate Program is assuring that students connect personally with the attorneys and have some fun.  Summer Associates can expect lunches, dinners, and other social gatherings in the community, where they will be able to experience the flavor of central Louisiana.
