Oxenhandler, Crenshaw Obtain Civil Rights Summary Claims Dismissal

November 09, 2016

Gold Weems civil rights defense lawyers successfully defend the Union Parish Detention Center in federal court against claims of excessive force and deliberate indifference to medical needs.  Martha R. Crenshaw and Steve M. Oxenhandler, members of the Firm’s Governmental Liability and Defense team, prevailed on a Motion for Summary Judgment in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.  In the case, plaintiff, a pre-trial detainee at the Detention Center, alleged employees failed to provide proper medical attention and used excessive force against him.  The Court disagreed and granted summary judgment in favor of the Detention Center and individually-named defendants.  The case is not expected to be appealed.
