The Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel named Laura Beth "LB" Matthews, an associate with Gold Weems, as a finalist for the inaugural Frank L. Maraist Award.  Professor Maraist, for whom the award is named, is one of the LSU Law School's most celebrated professors and was instrumental in LB's legal career.  Not only did LB work with Professor Maraist as a research assistant but Professor Maraist encouraged her to apply for and accept the clerkship with the Honorable Dee D. Drell, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.

LB’s nomination stressed her dedication to the Child In Need of Care ("CINC") program, which provides special support for children who battle home life disadvantages.  LB is a trained CINC attorney and donates hours each month to this worthy cause.

LB works with Charles S. Weems, III and Lottie L. Bash.  Her practice areas include corporate, commercial litigation, insurance defense and product liability.
